Car into Pole - E.Northampton St
MVA on Mundy Street
Asst. to Laurel Run 2/17/2009
Crews would be dispatched to 356 Laurel Run Estates on a shed fire endangering a building. As crews arrived on scene they found a shed fully involved with exposure to the adjacent mobile home. Crews quickly placed hand lines in place and put the fire under control. Moderate fire damage happened to the mobile home and the shed was not salvageable.Laurel Run crews would be assisted by Wilkes Barre Twp Fire, Bear Creek Fire, and Medic 8.There was no immediate word on the cause.
MVA-Casey Ave 1/31/2009
Wilkes Barre Twp Rescue, Fire Police, and several Medic 8 units responded to Casey Ave in the area of Harvey's Auto Body for a reported MVA with possible entrapment. Upon arrival on the scene of the MVA crews found 1 car off the roadway. The vehicle struck a wooden light pole as well as a car in a Auto Sales lot. Medic 8 transported 1 patient with injuries to a nearby hospital.After the patient was taken out of the car crews would cut power to the pole and nearby building as a safety precaution.
Investigation on Nicholson St.
Wilkes Barre Twp Fire would respond to a residence on Nicholson Street for an investigation. Our engine responded with a crew of 4 and upon investigation found that the cause was a plant that burned in the basement of the home. Crews need no fire suppression as the flames were out before arrival. Crews would go availibe at there convenience.
Possible Chimney Fire
Wilkes Barre Twp Fire, Ashley Fire, and Medic 8 would respond to the Stanton Hill section of the township for a possible chimney fire. As crews arrived on location they would find a smoke condition in the area. Upon further investigation it turned out to be a power vent from the wood burner that was strewing out the smoke.Crews would go available at there convenience. 188 F-1 was in command.
Fire Dangers Food Court
Wilkes Barre Twp Fire along with Ashley Fire and Medic 8 responded to the Wyoming Valley Mall outside the food court for a fully involved dumpster fire endangering the structure in the area of a propane tank.As crews arrived on scene they found a grease dumpster with a small fire. The Police department knocked the fire down using extinguishers before crews arrived.
Fire Hits Country Junction
More than 50 firefighters helped save several Mundy Street businesses early Thursday morning when a fire broke out at Ashley Furniture. Fire Chief John Yuknavich said fire fighters from several departments responded to the business just after 3 a.m. It took firefighters about 3 1/2 hours to bring the fire under control, Yuknavich said. Yuknavich said the fire was contained to the front section of Ashley Furniture and Country Junction. Adjacent businesses, Quiznos Subs and Nextel/Sprint, suffered water and smoke damage, Yuknavich said. "Most of the building is still intake," Yuknavich said. "The fire was engulfed when we arrived on scene, it was through the roof in the front to the store."Yuknavich said memorabilia to the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame that is located in the furniture store was not damaged. "It's all intake," Yuknavich said about the sports hall of fame property. Yuknavich said township police Officer Shawn Whitebread was patrolling in the area and noticed the orange glow just after 3 a.m. The building's alarm system also activated when flames broke out, Yuknavich said the cause of the fire is under investigation by a state police fire marshal. No injuries were reported. Wilkes Barre Twp crews were assisted by Ashley Fire,Hanover Fire and Truck, Wilkes Barre City Truck,Plains Township Fire and Laurel Run Fire.
Garbage Truck Hits Pole
Power outage to our home on Watson Street.A J.P Mascaro garbage truck that was going to empty a dumpster behind our firehouse took out a pole knocking out power to several buildings including our own firehouse. Power was out for abouot 8 hours, as crews from PPL Electric and Utilities worked nonstop for more than 6 hours to restore power. The pole broke in half at the base and wires and two transformers fell onto the truck.The driver was not hurt and Fire Police remained on the scene for hours assisting with traffic detail.
Poss. Structure Fire at Staples
Wilkes Barre Twp Fire,Ashley Fire, and Medic 8 were called to the Staples store in the Arena Hub Plaza were a report of a fire in the ceiling and smoke in the store.The store was evacuated and upon arrival there was no apparent fire, upon further investigation crews found out that it was a light balis that burned up.

AFA at VA Medical Center
Wilkes Barre Twp Fire and Medic 8 responded to East End Blvd. to the VA Hospital's overnight doctor's stay area for an AFA. No fire or smoke upon arrival.The alarm was caused by low water pressure in the ansul system.
